Our Before Class CPL Prep Session is 45 minutes with an experienced firearm instructor, a real firearm, and a small enough group that no question feels out of place. It means you walk into class ready rather than catching up. You won’t find it at most CPL classes.
CPL Training for Lansing Residents
Michigan CPL Training Academy welcomes students from Lansing and communities throughout Metro Detroit to our Livonia training location.
Our one-day CPL course combines classroom instruction and the required live-fire training into a single-day program. Free parking is available on site, and our Livonia classroom is accessible from major Metro Detroit roadways, including I-96, I-496, and US-127.
Where Lansing Residents Apply for Their CPL
Michigan issues your CPL through the clerk of the county where you live — so Lansing residents apply through the Ingham County Clerk, not the city of Lansing. Here is the order it happens in:
1. Take the class. You leave us the same day with your certificate of completion — the document the clerk requires.
2. Apply at the Ingham County Clerk. Bring your certificate and photo ID. Appointments are required, and there is a $100 application and licensing fee payable to the county clerk, plus $15 for fingerprinting — $115 in total.
3. Get fingerprinted within 45 days. Lansing residents can be printed by their local police agency or the county sheriff — you must do this within 45 days of submitting your application.
4. Wait for the decision. The clerk must issue your license, or a notice of statutory disqualification, within 45 days of your classifiable fingerprints.

No. Anyone may train with us. Where you apply is what depends on residency — Lansing residents apply in Ingham County.
Is the range in Lansing?
No. Classroom instruction is at our Livonia facility and live fire is at a private range we reserve for the class, so you finish everything in one day.
I have never fired a gun. Is that a problem in a Lansing class?
It is the most common thing we hear. A large share of our students fire their first round with us, and rental firearms are available if you do not own one yet.
How soon can I get in?
